Huawei Mate 9 Overview
Huawei is a Chinese tech giant, but they’re far less known in the US and Europe. It can be incredibly hard to get a phone out to market with competition like Apple, Samsung and Google so we are really hoping to see a significant Huawei Mate 9 Black Friday sale to get this phone out to more US customers.
There are some interesting features with this phone/phablet, but the first thing that stands out to us about the Huawei Mate 9 is the size. It is a large phone which isn’t a bad thing as the death of the Galaxy Note 7 has left a gap in the market for a quality phablet and we think the Huawei Mate 9 could fill that gap. It runs on Android and has some notable features which set it apart from other phones on the market.
Key Features
- 5.9″ 1080p display – the colors and detail in this large display are really nice. Although it’s not as pixel-dense as some other smartphones, it still delivers sharp images.
- Machine Learning Algorithm – Huawei are developing artificial intelligence (AI) in what seems like a bid to set it apart from other phones on the market. The Mate 9 will apparently be able to learn how you use your phone, and in turn optimise performance based on your habits. If it works as promised, this means that it shouldn’t slow down over time as the phones resources would be devoted only to what you use on your phone, which sounds awesome!
- Metal body – the sleek metal body of the Mate 9 felt luxurious in my hand, its smooth matte back gives another great finish from Huawei.
- 4,000mAh battery – compared to many other flagships, the mate 9 has a great battery life. The Mate 9 also has some clever software which monitors apps using up too much power and closes them automatically in some cases.
- Good speakers – the speakers on the bottom of the phone are quite capable, enabling you to watch films and listen to music with a decent volume.
- Great camera features – The camera is good as a point and shoot device, but also has full manual controls and object tracking for better functionality.
