Linksys Velop Home WiFi System Black Friday Overview
Linksys Velop is Belkin’s very first Home WiFi System. Similar to other Home Wifi Systems, or Mesh Networks, it distributes WiFi signal out across your home to quickly and easily improve WiFi coverage. You have one main unit which connects to your modem and, depending on the size of your home, additional ‘nodes’ are then placed around the home. These help distribute the network and increase its range, as well as to prevent WiFi dead zones. The main difference between mesh networks such as this and some WIFI extenders in the past is that there is one single network, rather than many different networks. Devices connect to the node with the best signal, so it is possible to move around the house with a seamless connection.

The coverage of network will depend on how many nodes you have set up, with 1 – 3 packs available. Although, the system is scaleable so you can add more nodes if you find you need more coverage. Whats more, each node features tri-band technology, which means there are 3 separate bands in each node. Although, the third band is not for primary networking and serves for back haul communication between the nodes, so devices have the option of connecting to either a 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz band. It’s almost like splitting each node into separate routers, but what it means is that more devices can connect without experiencing bottlenecks.
As is usually the case with mesh networks, the system comes with a companion App to guide you through setup. It can also be used to customize your network in several ways. Firstly, you can setup parental controls to block inappropriate content or block particular devices from accessing the network – great for bed times! You can also setup a temporary guest network that operates separately from your private network, which is good for ensuring your security. This could be of particular value to businesses that have customers who want to use WIFI, but who also use the network themselves for private networking.
